Dear Make Animal Testing History marcher,

Thank you for taking part in our virtual march to Make Animal Testing History! Since starting the march on World Day for Animals in Laboratories in April 2009, we have together worked to create a new and better law to protect animals used in experiments across the European Union. We want to thank you for all you have done for animals and humane research.

Lobbying for a better deal for animals in laboratories in the new law has been extremely challenging. It has been disappointing to see a number of progressive welfare-friendly improvements defeated along the way, for example, a proposed timetable for the replacement of primates in research. We have even had to fight hard to defend the most basic measures, such as the requirement to use available alternative non-animal test methods.

However, there is also much to celebrate as the new legislation introduces mandatory ethical and scientific review for the first time in many countries and brings a new momentum on alternatives.

Make Animal Testing History's central goal-to achieve a commitment to increase efforts to replace animal experiments with alternative research techniques-has had a tremendous impact. Our call for increased effort to advance additional non-animal methods has achieved its aim, as the European Commission looks set to increase its commitment under the new law to work for the replacement of animals used in biomedical research. This has the potential to bring about major changes, and we are especially grateful to you for helping us achieve this breakthrough.

As you receive this news update, we will be in Brussels for the last Parliament committee meeting before the vote, watching for opportunities to make any further gains that might be possible.

We expect the new law to be adopted within the next few months, although the timing could still change at this late stage. What won't change is our commitment to take your views directly to decision-makers and to keep working for you, and for the animals we all want to see protected, until the very last vote is taken.

Thank you

The Make Animal Testing History team

Det är jättebra om det funkar. Sverige var ju med och försämrade i det där direktivet så jag trodde det var över.
